State of the forests in the Picardy region

While Picardy’s land is mainly agricultural, the region has many woods and forests of all sizes. The main species are oak, beech, and poplar. It also has climatic conditions that allow for significant biodiversity and offer rich discoveries of fauna and flora.
Despite all of this, forests only represent 16% of the region’s surface area, compared to 28% average nationally. This statistic is even lower when we look at the Somme area, where only 9% is wooded.
