OUR MISSION : ENGAGE OUR GENERATION AGAINST GLOBAL WARMING
As an actor in the fashion industry, FAGUO has an impact on our Planet. On the one hand, we’re producing collections, and we encourage people to buy our products. On the other hand, we’re also a possible solution. Every approach of the company lead to an eco-responsible policy. The road is still long toward ending global warming. To understand this issue, let’s come back to its origin.
EARTH AND CO2, A LONG STORY
Greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon. Sun rays provide energy to the Earth that warm and reverse the same quantity of energy by infrared rays. Those infrared rays are resent to space but the majority is kept by a kind of barrier made by gas. Because of this barrier, they came back to Earth. Without this greenhouse effect, the average temperature will be about -18°C, without any possibility for life. Naturally, this phenomenon gives us the possibility to find an average temperature of 15°C.
CO2 (=carbon dioxide ) is one of the greenhouse effect gas that lead to this regulation. It is naturally produced by animals’ respiration, by human respiration and also the photosynthesis system of the trees and the plants. Carbon dioxide emissions are mainly coming from human consumption of fossil materials to produce energy, as petrol, gas, coal…
Since the industrial revolution, the use of those resources has strongly increased the quantity of gas in the atmosphere. This leads to an increase of the infrared rays resent to the earth surface, and inevitably to global warming.
For example, in 2017, 36,8 billions tons of carbon dioxide were produced. Nowadays concentration of CO2 is 1,6 times higher than before the industrial era.
OVERPRODUCTION OF CO2 HAS HUGE CONSEQUENCES
This overproduction of CO2 coming from humans Is increasing the greenhouse effect and accelerating the global warming in an unequal way between the different regions of our planet. Since 1975, it increases about 0.2 degrees every 10 years. This might seem a little change but consequences are huge. The IPCC advert us as it can increase from 1,1°C to 6,4°C by 2100. Our planet already knew an increase of 0,74°C since 1900, including an increase of 0,65°C between 1956 and 2006.
On the surface of the planet, those changes are increasing drought periods and extremes natural disasters (flooding, hurricanes… ). Glaciers of both poles are melting faster than ever, liberating freshwater that is changing the salinity of the water. A large majority of species are extremely vulnerable to this change. It’s also impacting the increase of the sea level.
The increase of the CO2 concentration is also at the origin of the acidification of oceans. Corals and plankton, that are the basis of the food chain, are extremely threaten too. All in all more than a million of species are endangered. We’re causing the 6th mass extinction.
As Nicolas HULOT said during an event of the Fondation Nicolas Hulot pour la Nature et l’Homme “ We have to divide our gas emissions by 2 to 2020, and by 4 to 2040 while reforesting the planet to win the battle against global warming.”
Start-ups, states, and international communities are suggesting solutions, regulations and agreements to reduce significantly the greenhouse effect gas emissions at every levels.
AT FAGUO : WE MEASURE, REDUCE, AND THEN COMPENSATE OUR CO2 EMISSIONS
Since the beginning of FAGUO, we engage on 3 actions to struggle against global warming. Week-end MEASURE every emissions of CO2 of FAGUO with a Carbon Footprint. From the extraction of primal materials, transport, packaging, office energy, mails, business trips, to the end of the life of our products. We’re supported by experts of the Goodplanet Foundation to audit, and calculate precisely our emissions. Measuring is an awareness that leads us to the reduction of our carbon footprint. Discover our Carbon Footprint HERE.
We REDUCE heavily our CO2 emissions by influencing every angles of our jobs. For example, on the primal materials and packaging we use recycled products. For transportation, we use trains. We also have a recycle program that we put forward with our terminals in shops and in our offices in Nantes to recycle old products.
We reduced the average emission of a FAGUO product from 9kg equivalent of CO2 in 2010 to 6kg equivalent of CO2 in 2015. We’re targeting a new goal: 4kg equivalent of CO2 in 2020. All of our actions to reduce our emissions are AVAILABLE THERE.
Finally, we OFFSET our emissions and even more. We’re planting a tree for every FAGUO product. Since 2009, we have planted over 1,3 millions of trees in more than 200 FAGUO forests. Thanks to photosynthesis system, trees have a fundamental role against global warming. They stock CO2 and produce O2. Our forests are managed by NAUDET Pépinières that support FAGUO since the beginning of the project.
